Environmental Monitoring Activities

To keep impacts at minimum levels during both construction and operation, regular environmental monitoring will be carried out at the potential impact points identified in the ESIA report and at new points that may be indirectly affected by the project, and we will take the necessary measures.
Water Quality (surface water and groundwater)
Air Quality
Environmental Noise and Vibration
Soil Quality

Biodiversity

Throughout 2021, we carried out detailed field surveys within the scope of the ESIA with a broad team of specialists from different flora and fauna disciplines, identified sensitive and endemic species, and defined the related protection measures.
Within the scope of the Biodiversity Action Plan / Critical Habitat Assessment Report:
Bird Monitoring Studies
In the Bursa-Bandirma section of the Project, especially around Manyas Lake, Falco cherrug (Saker Falcon) was identified as critical habitat. Monitoring activities will be conducted to ensure the continuity of the species, and activities that may affect the sheltering and feeding patterns of birds will be avoided during construction and monitoring periods.
Fish Monitoring Studies
In the Bursa-Bandirma section of the Project, two fish species were identified: Alburnus carinatus and Capoeta tinca; Barbus niluferensis and Cobitis puncticulata may also potentially be present. Monitoring studies will be conducted in these streams during May and July, and no construction activity that would disturb stream beds will be carried out during these months, which are also breeding and spawning periods for fish.
Seed Collection Activities
In the Osmaneli-Yenisehir section of the Project, the presence of three endemic plant species was identified: Ornithogalum pascheanum, Aubrieta olympica, and Centaurea sakariyaensis.
To protect these species, seed collection activities will be initiated during the June / July 2022 periods. After collecting and cleaning a sufficient amount of seed, part of the seeds will be sent to the Turkish Seed Gene Bank to prevent the species from disappearing, while the remainder will be replanted in areas with similar habitats to support the species' re-establishment.
